  • Senti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say Snooze

Senti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say SnoozeSenti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say Snooze Android: Senti Wayk may be the last alarm clock you ever download, assuming you're willing to pay $2 USD for it. The app wakes you gently with a tone that starts off quiet and gets louder, and lets you snooze the alarm by speaking to it or waving your hand over the proximity sensor. When you do get up and dismiss the alarm, Senti Wayk will speak the temperature aloud to you, show you your calendar for the day, and gets you up to speed with a few news feeds.

Senti Wayk's snooze feature is probably the most interesting thing about it: when the alarm goes off, you can speak aloud "snooze for 10 minutes," and the app will respond, aloud, "snoozing for 10 minutes," so you can go back to sleep. Alternatively, you can wave your hand over the phone (assuming it's face up on your nightstand) to snooze the alarm. The app looks great (and almost a little Metro, borrowing a few cues from Windows Phone 7) and when you do pick it up to dismiss the alarm, the app will fill you in on the day's events. It speaks the weather to you, and if you connect your Google Calendar, it'll show you your appointments before pulling in a few RSS feeds you can read to find out what happened when you were sleeping.

The app is $2 at Google Play. If you're already in love with another Android alarm clock, like our favorite, Alarm Clock Extreme, or the more expensive Gentle Alarm, you may not want to drop the cash. If you're still using the stock alarm clock though, it's worth a look.

  • Morning Routine for Android Forces You to Wake Up and Start Your Day by Scanning a Barcode

In Alarms, Alarm Clocks, Alarm Clock, Android, Smartphones, Morning Routine, Routine, Barcodes, Barcode Scanners, Downloads, Android Downloads, News, Weather, / 10 April 2012 / 0 comments

Morning Routine for Android Forces You to Wake Up and Start Your Day by Scanning a Barcode Android: We've shared tons of Android alarm clock apps here before, but Morning Routine takes a fresh new approach to forcing yourself awake. When the alarm goes off, you have to scan a barcode—like, the one on your carton of orange juice in the fridge—in order to turn it off.

Lots of alarm clocks try to find clever ways to get you out of bed in order to turn them off, in hopes that once you're up, you'll be awake enough to actually get on with your day. What's nice about Morning Routine is that you can make it take you anywhere in the house. I probably wouldn't be convinced to get up by an alarm clock at the other end of the room—I'd just plop back into bed. But forcing me to get up, open my fridge, and take out the orange juice? That's probably enough motivation to get me eating breakfast and start my day. You can even set it to open a link when you turn off the alarm, or make you scan a series of barcodes—like the orange juice carton, your cereal box, and your toothpaste—to force you into a morning routine. Check out the video above to see a (humorous) demonstration.

Morning Routine is a free download for Android devices.

  • An Alarm Clock App That Sends an Embarrassing Tweet Every Time You Hit Snooze

An Alarm Clock App That Sends an Embarrassing Tweet Every Time You Hit SnoozeiOS: You could make the argument that, on the whole, the Japanese are more disciplined than we are. Part of that might be because they impose harsh consequences on failure. For example, who else would come up with an alarm clock app that sends out embarrassing tweets whenever you hit the snooze button?

OKITE is that app, and whenever you hit snooze, it will pick a random, strange, embarrassing tweet to all your followers. We've covered various alarm clocks with punishment for snooze before, but those have leaned more towards physical punishment than psychological. Though, because these phrases are in Japanese, most of your followers will wonder what's going on with you unless they add an option to put in your own custom text. Still, it's a good idea.

  • The WakeMate Wristband and Smartphone App Monitor Your Sleep, Wake You Up Pleasantly

The WakeMate Wristband and Smartphone App Monitor Your Sleep, Wake You Up Pleasantly The WakeMate wristband monitors your sleep cycles, and uses your iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry device to wake you at the most opportune time.

Our sleep cycles rotate between shallow and deep sleep, and its much easier to wake up from the shallow end of the cycle. Unfortuantely, traditional alarm clocks don't care what part of the cycle you're in, so sometimes they'll rip you away from your heavenly slumber at the worst time.

We've featured a few mobile apps that try to wake you peacefully, but the Wakemate has the advantage of actually attaching to your body to accurately monitor your sleep. It then communicates with your Android or iOS device to set off your alarm at the optimal time, when you're in shallow sleep, so you wake up happy.

The WakeMate runs for $60, which sounds like a lot, but if it works as advertised, it seems well worth the money. We'll actually be reviewing the WakeMate alongside some cheaper options in the near future, too, so if you're on the fence, keep an eye out around Lifehacker for a more thorough comparison.
