  • Senti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say Snooze

Senti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say SnoozeSenti Wayk for Android Wakes You Gently, Quiets Down When You Say Snooze Android: Senti Wayk may be the last alarm clock you ever download, assuming you're willing to pay $2 USD for it. The app wakes you gently with a tone that starts off quiet and gets louder, and lets you snooze the alarm by speaking to it or waving your hand over the proximity sensor. When you do get up and dismiss the alarm, Senti Wayk will speak the temperature aloud to you, show you your calendar for the day, and gets you up to speed with a few news feeds.

Senti Wayk's snooze feature is probably the most interesting thing about it: when the alarm goes off, you can speak aloud "snooze for 10 minutes," and the app will respond, aloud, "snoozing for 10 minutes," so you can go back to sleep. Alternatively, you can wave your hand over the phone (assuming it's face up on your nightstand) to snooze the alarm. The app looks great (and almost a little Metro, borrowing a few cues from Windows Phone 7) and when you do pick it up to dismiss the alarm, the app will fill you in on the day's events. It speaks the weather to you, and if you connect your Google Calendar, it'll show you your appointments before pulling in a few RSS feeds you can read to find out what happened when you were sleeping.

The app is $2 at Google Play. If you're already in love with another Android alarm clock, like our favorite, Alarm Clock Extreme, or the more expensive Gentle Alarm, you may not want to drop the cash. If you're still using the stock alarm clock though, it's worth a look.

Solid Explorer Beta is a Beautiful, Feature-Rich Android File Browser

Android: There's no shortage of file browsers available for Android, but Solid Explorer Beta has raised the bar with a gorgeous UI and pro level features.

Inside the app you'll find a convenient dual-panel view with drag and drop support, an FTP client for file sharing, and ZIP, TAR, and RAR support, as well as handy features like indexed Dropbox searching and root file access. The ability to search by file type and specify filters is also a huge time saver.

What really sets Solid Explorer apart though is its beautiful design. Lists scroll smoothly, thumbnails load quickly, and the menus are easy to navigate. Solid Explorer Beta is free and compatible with Android 2.2 and above.

  • Vlingo Labs Brings Voice-Activated SMS, Dialing, and More Siri-Like Features to Ice Cream Sandwich Phones

In Android Downloads, Downloads, Android, Virtual Assistant, Voice, Search, Sms, Text, Voice Activated, Speech, Voice Control, Siri, Personal Assistant, Vlingo, / 25 May 2012 / 0 comments

Vlingo Labs Brings Voice-Activated SMS, Dialing, and More Siri-Like Features to Ice Cream Sandwich Phones Android: Vlingo is still our favorite virtual assistant for Android, but even it doesn't offer all of the features and tight integration that Apple's Siri does in iOS. Well, with Vlingo Labs, the service's new beta app where they test new features, you can get some of that integration, like the ability to speak to wake up Vlingo at any time and the ability to dictate SMS messages, web searches, and voice dialing, all without ever touching your phone.

Vlingo doesn't hide the fact that their Labs app is the place they test new features before they go live in the full version of Vlingo, but if you don't mind being on the cutting edge, Vlingo Labs has a lot to offer. The app's design has been revamped to look a little more like Siri, with a single-touch activation button at the bottom of your screen that can be pulled up over other apps, and Vlingo will now completely dictate text messages for you instead of hand you off to Google's built-in voice actions for the same task. Voice dialing and web search are holdovers from the main app, but they're faster and more conversational in the beta.

Unfortunately, Vlingo Labs has its limitations. First of all, it only supports Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices right now, and even then only devices in the United States and Canada. If your device matches that description, give the app a whirl and let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • Meta Widget Turns Nearly Any Web Page Into a Widget on Android

Meta Widget Turns Nearly Any Web Page Into a Widget on AndroidMeta Widget Turns Nearly Any Web Page Into a Widget on Android Android: Widgets are awesome, but if you're keeping your eye on a service or web site that doesn't have a widget in the Play Store, you can make your own with Meta Widget.

To get started, just open up Meta Widget and navigate to the site you want to "widgetize". Then, when you get to the page you want, check the box in the lower left corner and tap somewhere on the page. It'll surround that element in an orange box, after which you can move the selection tool around with the arrows at the bottom of the screen. When you find the element you want to put on your home screen, tap the plus sign and go to town configuring text colors, widget alignment, and more to make it look just right.

It won't work with every single site out there, and unfortunately it takes quite a bit of trial and error, so be prepared to do some serious tinkering with this app. The more a site is formatted for mobile, the better it will probably end up (RSS feeds often work well too). Check out the video above to see a demonstration, or hit the link below to download it for yourself.

Meta Widget is a free download for Android devices.
