  • Siine Is an Android Keyboard with Loads of Shortcuts for Times, Dates, and Everyday Phrases

In Android Keyboards, Android, Downloads, Android Downloads, Typing, Shortcuts, Gestures, Smartphones, Clips, / 07 March 2012 / 0 comments

Siine Is an Android Keyboard with Loads of Shortcuts for Times, Dates, and Everyday Phrases Android: Siine is a new type of keyboard for Android that aims to make typing easier by reducing certain words, phrases, and notations to one tap.

Say you're texting a friend and need to remind them the day and time of the concert that's coming up. Instead of typing it all out (and perhaps even having to look at your calendar), you can bring up Siine's calendar, tap a date, then tap its clock to pick a time. It's much faster and easier than messing around with the numbers on your keyboard. It also contains a large set of words and phrases for every day things like greetings, "how are you", "can you talk?" and more—plus the ability to create your own. Then any given phrase you regularly use is just a tap away. It sounds and looks lamer than it actually is—the ability to add your own shortcuts is super valuable, and can make typing certain messages super fast, and without a huge learning curve. Coolest of all is its quick deletion gesture, in which you just hold down the delete key and then swipe your finger around to delete text very quickly.

It's all a bit difficult to explain, because it's so unique, so check out the video above to see it in action. Siine is a free download for Android devices.

  • Swype Beta for Android Updates with Dragon Dictation Built-In, Advanced Word Suggestions

In Swype, Updates, Keyboards, Android Keyboards, Android, Smartphones, Typing, Speech To Text, Clips, / 21 December 2011 / 0 comments

Swype Beta for Android Updates with Dragon Dictation Built-In, Advanced Word Suggestions Android: Swype, one of our favorite Android keyboards, has just updated to include support for the awesome Dragon Dictation speech-to-text engine.

Swype has replaced its voice-to-text button with a Dragon Dictation button, that uses Dragon's advanced transcription program for awesome hands-free texting. It also includes "advanced language modeling", which is a new algorithm that lets it better predict the words you're typing. Instead of just choosing from the popularity of individual words, it looks at what you typed before it and learns over time to pick the best word out of the bunch (for example, choosing "mosh pit" over "mosh pot"). The new version will be rolling out to existing beta users over the course of the next 72 hours. Hit the link to read more.

  • Swype Finally Adds Automatic Updates and Saved User Dictionaries to the Gesture-Based Android Keyboard

In Updates, Swype, Annoyances, Keyboards, Android Keyboards, Android, Typing, Smartphones, Downloads, Android Downloads, / 20 October 2011 / 0 comments

Swype Finally Adds Automatic Updates and Saved User Dictionaries to the Gesture-Based Android KeyboardWe love the non-traditional Swype keyboard for Android, but it has a few major annoyances—namely with the installation process of the free beta. Today's update fixes most of those problems, letting you update Swype automatically without losing any of your settings.

Previously, every time Swype came out with an update, you had to uninstall Swype, re-download the Swype Installer, then install Swype using the installer. Now, once you install the newest version, you can get rid of that Swype Installer entirely. Swype will notify you when a new version comes out and will update itself, without any uninstallation. It'll also save your dictionary and settings, so you don't have to re-add your name, favorite swear words, or leet speak to the dictionary every time you get a new version. Hit the link to see what other minor changes have come to Swype, and to get the new version for your phone.

Swype Beta is a free download for Android phones running 2.0 and up.
