  • Modify Wall-Mount Bed Headboards Into Freestanding By Adding Table Legs

In Ikea Hacks, Bedroom, Ikea, Renters, / 10 March 2012 / 0 comments

Modify Wall-Mount Bed Headboards Into Freestanding By Adding Table LegsOne of the authors of the Ikea Hackers weblog wanted to use an Ikea Brimnes headboard in their apartment, but most of those are wall-mounted which wouldn't work for their landlord situation. The fix was made by using two Ikea Furusund table legs to make the headboard freestanding.

The Furusund table legs are wooden and fit into a metal base. All you need to do are cut the legs to size and attach the metal base to the bottom of the headboard. If I were doing this project, I'd probably also paint the legs to match the headboard as well.

Have you hacked furniture pieces to get them to work in a specific application? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Repurpose a Desk by Splitting It in Half for Two Night Stands

In Diy, Clever Uses, Household, Repurpose, Reuse, Bedroom, / 05 October 2011 / 0 comments

Repurpose a Desk by Splitting It in Half for Two Night StandsIf you're a frequent thrift store or garage sale shopper, you know finding matching furniture is often difficult. Finding old desks, however, is not, which is why Sugar Bee Crafts suggests you cut an old desk in half.

By sawing out the midsection of the desk then routering and sanding the edges, they were able to quickly and easily make two matching night stands. The process is relatively simple provided you have access to a circular saw, router and sand paper. Once complete, you can paint or stain it to match the color of your room. Check out the full how-to guide over at Sugar Bee Crafts.

  • Leave Pillows in the Sun for a Few Hours to Plump Them Up Again

In Household, Bedroom, Pillows, Sun, Evaporation, Moisture, Comfort, / 04 August 2011 / 0 comments

Leave Pillows in the Sun for a Few Hours to Plump Them Up Again If the pillows on your bed are as flat as the blankets when you get up in the morning, open the curtains and let them sit in the sun for a few hours to help fluff them up naturally.

Real Simple points out that while we sleep, we tend to sweat (or drool) and that moisture winds up in the pillows. By placing them in the sun on a bright day and letting them sit there for a few hours, all of that moisture—and moisture that builds up over nights of use-will evaporate and the pillows will fluff up over the course of the day.

You may still need to fluff them by hand before going to bed at night, but it's a good tip regardless. Your mileage, however, may vary, especially if you live somewhere the sun doesn't shine too often. Do you have any secret bed-making tips? Share your tips in the comments. Photo by Rev. Stan.

  • Make a DIY Frosted Wall Light from Ikea Parts

In Ikea Hacks, Diy, Lighting, Lights, Home, Bedroom, Household, / 17 September 2010 / 0 comments

Make a DIY Frosted Wall Light from Ikea Parts With a transparent cabinet door, Ikea's great Dioder LED lights, and a little ingenuity, you can end up with a huge flat wall light on the cheap.

This neat little hack is super easy. You just adhere two sets of Ikea Dioder lights to the backside of a transparent cabinet door and you've got yourself a big, bright wall light. In the bedroom it's great for a diffused reading light, plus it looks pretty great too.
