One of the authors of the Ikea Hackers weblog wanted to use an Ikea Brimnes headboard in their apartment, but most of those are wall-mounted which wouldn't work for their landlord situation. The fix was made by using two Ikea Furusund table legs to make the headboard freestanding.
The Furusund table legs are wooden and fit into a metal base. All you need to do are cut the legs to size and attach the metal base to the bottom of the headboard. If I were doing this project, I'd probably also paint the legs to match the headboard as well.
Have you hacked furniture pieces to get them to work in a specific application? Let us know in the comments below.

If you're a frequent thrift store or garage sale shopper, you know finding matching furniture is often difficult. Finding old desks, however, is not, which is why Sugar Bee Crafts suggests you cut an old desk in half.
If the pillows on your bed are as flat as the blankets when you get up in the morning, open the curtains and let them sit in the sun for a few hours to help fluff them up naturally.
With a transparent cabinet door, Ikea's great Dioder LED lights, and a little ingenuity, you can end up with a huge flat wall light on the cheap.
