  • Mount An External Hard Drive Underneath Your Desk with Velcro to Keep It Hidden Away

    In Organization, Productivity, Clutter, Desk, / 13 January 2012 / 0 comments

Mount An External Hard Drive Underneath Your Desk with Velcro to Keep It Hidden AwayAn external hard drive can be the bane of a clear workspace because it needs to be plugged in, but still portable when needed. Over at Apartment Therapy, writer Kevin Whipps outlines the ways he tucks his hard drive away. This includes mounting it to the bottom of the desk with Velcro.

With a few strips of industrial strength Velcro you can mount the hard drive underneath the desk so it's not an eyesore but still easy to grab and take with you. In theory, this could be applied to any of your lesser-used hardware. For instance, if you only take out the drawing tablet once a week, mounting it with Velcro beneath the desk is a good way to keep it tucked away but still accessible. The same goes for any other drives, accessories, or cables. Hit up Apartment Therapy for a few more suggestions on hiding away your hard drive and clearing off your desk.

  • The Glowing PC in a Table

In Featured Workspace, Workspaces, Workspace, Desk, Desktop, Workspace Show And Tell, / 11 January 2012 / 0 comments

The Glowing PC in a TableToday's featured workspace showcases a true all-in-one computer, with the components built into the glass table. The table itself is a large, roomy surface and thanks to the table's design, the computer gets natural air cooling.

Similar to the custom-built all-in-one desk we've seen before, this desk/computer combo is all about the stunning light show. No specs, unfortunately, are offered up on AcidCow where this table is posted (or even the username) and, be warned, some of the site pics are also not safe for work, but you can see some other shots of this desk in the link below.

If you have a workspace of your own to show off, throw the pictures on your Flickr account and add it to the Lifehacker Workspace Show and Tell Pool. Include some details about your setup and why it works for you, and you just might see it featured on the front page of Lifehacker.

Red, Gray, and White: The Screenwriter's WorkspaceToday's featured workspace is painted in a bold, sophisticated red and gray color scheme. Flickr user and screenwriter SheriffShields has also decked out his home office with inspiring movie posters and the tools that help him create.

Most of the furniture and accessories are black, which works well with this space. Here's the view of the dual-monitor desk setup: Red, Gray, and White: The Screenwriter's Workspace

  • The Warm Attic Workspace

In Featured Workspace, Workspaces, Workspace, Desk, Desktop, Workspace Show And Tell, / 28 December 2011 / 0 comments

The Warm Attic WorkspaceThis workspace looks like a comfy yet energizing place to think or work, with warm brick-colored walls coupled with dark wood surfaces. TierOne Photography's Steve Norcup remodeled his attic to design his ideal space.

The desk consists of two Ikea units shaped into an L against the half wall around the attic staircase. He uses several monitors and computers in his work. If you hit up Steve's Flickr stream, you'll see the full view of the sumptuous office space, complete with dog bed and beautiful dark wood flooring.

If you have a workspace of your own to show off, throw the pictures on your Flickr account and add it to the Lifehacker Workspace Show and Tell Pool. Include some details about your setup and why it works for you, and you just might see it featured on the front page of Lifehacker.
