  • PubMyCal Sends Readable Google Calendar Itineraries by Email

In Google Calendar, Email, Calendar, Calendars, Events, Sharing, / 28 March 2012 / 0 comments

PubMyCal Sends Readable Google Calendar Itineraries by EmailEver try to copy and paste items from Google Calendar into an email? The results aren't pretty, and hard for others to install in their own calendars. Save everybody some time with PubMyCal, which sucks in calendar feeds and spits out clean emails, with links.

After signing into PubMyCal with a Google or Google Apps account, you pick the calendar you want to pull from, and choose two dates to create a range. Enter an email address to send to, and you're done. That person gets a nicely formatted list of times, dates, and event details.

PubMyCal Sends Readable Google Calendar Itineraries by EmailThey also get links to your calendar events, but if you haven't shared access to your calendar, or set it for public viewing, they'll arrive at an access denied page. But that's the only drawback, and it's really not a problem in most cases.

PubMyCal is free to use, no hitches or sign-ups needed, other than authenticating through Google.

  • Zapaday Is a Global, Public Events Calendar to Show You the Future

In Webapps, Calendar, Events, Beta Beat, News, Sharing, / 06 January 2012 / 0 comments

Zapaday Is a Global, Public Events Calendar to Show You the FutureZapaday is a free global events calendar you can tap into to find out what's happening soon, from holidays to cultural events and news. Zapaday scrapes 4,000+ news sites for future events and also pulls in important public calendars.

The webapp, now in beta, can be accessed without signing up for an account, but if you register you can get event notifications for categories that matter to you (business, culture, sports, science, and so on).

To stay up to date, you can browse by event category and then subscribe to iCal feeds in Google Calendar, Outlook, and other calendar apps. Alternatively, save individual events to your Zapaday calendar (which you can subscribe to in your calendar app).

If you need to monitor what's happening (or going to happen) around the world or for a given topic, bookmark—or connect to—Zapaday. It's a comprehensive calendar for upcoming holidays, product launches, conferences, and more.

  • SignUpGenius Simplifies Planning Potlucks, Parties, and Community Events

SignUpGenius Simplifies Planning Potlucks, Parties, and Community EventsIf you routinely plan events, you may find that SignUpGenius can help make the execution of your plans easier. Using the webapp's 5-step wizard you can create a variety of electronic sign-up sheets that you can email to potential attendees.

Features include colorful themes for your invitations, detailed sign-up item list, and the ability to send out reminder emails before the event.

I usually use Facebook to setup events, but I like the sign-up item lists and themes. It would be nice to have these functions added into Facebook. Until then, SignUpGenius is a free ad-supported webapp that just works. It's nice to know exactly who is bringing what so you don't end up with four batches of mac & cheese.

  • Roamz Finds New and Interesting Things To Do in Your Neighborhood

In Iphone Downloads, Downloads, Iphone, Local, Neighborhood, Social, Community, Location Based, Location-based, Events, News, / 20 October 2011 / 0 comments

Roamz Finds New and Interesting Things To Do in Your Neighborhood iOS: Roamz is a new mobile app that uses your social networks and your location to help you discover activities, restaurants, attractions, and other venues near you, wherever you may be. Whether you're at home and want to try a new restaurant, or traveling far from home without a clue of where to go to unwind, Roamz can give you suggestions based on what everyone nearby is buzzing about.

Roamz isn't the only app that can use your location to tell you what's in the area. What makes it stand out is that it also checks Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to find out what people in the vicinity are talking about, taking pictures of, and where they're checking in. If you choose, you can connect the app with your accounts on those services so it can personalize those recommendations based on your friends' check-ins, and your likes and interests. If you do, the app can also be used to check all of those accounts in one view. By using social signals instead of just a directory of nearby addresses and businesses, Roamz can help you find something in the area that people actually like.

The app is brand new, so there are some kinks to work out and there may not be many recommendations in every corner of the world. The team behind the app has plans to use notifications to alert you when you're near a new bar or restaurant that your friends really enjoyed or when a new attraction opens in your backyard. The app is free, and available now in the iTunes App store.
