  • QtADB Brings Android File Management, App Installation, and More to Your Desktop

In Android, Android Rooting, Command Line, Terminal, File Management, File Managers, Smartphones, Clips, / 18 January 2012 / 0 comments

QtADB Brings Android File Management, App Installation, and More to Your Desktop Windows/Mac/Linux and Android: If you've ever tinkered with your phone, you've probably heard of ADB, the command line debug tool for Android. If you're not in love with the command line, though, QtADB brings ADB's file management, app installation, and more to a friendly GUI.

Whether you're tweaking a few system files on your phone or trying to root it, sometimes you have no other choice but to run some commands in an ADB shell. The command line can be intimidating, though, not to mention slow and arduous if you haven't beefed up your command line ninja skills. If you just need to perform a couple quick tasks, qtADB makes the process easy by bringing tons of ADB's most common uses—from file management to app installation to backups—to a friendly desktop program. It even contains a built-in ADB shell if you find you need to run a manual command or two. Check out the video above to see it in action, and hit the link below to download it.

QtADB is a free download for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, and works with Android devices.

  • Hold the Finder’s Back Button to See Your Recent Folders

In Shortcut Of The Day, Finder, Mac Os X, File Managers, Files, Folders, Shortcuts, Mouse Shortcuts, Mac, / 22 December 2011 / 0 comments

Hold the Finder's Back Button to See Your Recent FoldersJust like you can hold down the back button in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, holding down the Finder's back button in Lion shows you where you've recently been.

This only works in Lion, unfortunately, but it's a really useful shortcut if you want to go back two or three folders instead of just one. It isn't a mind-blowing feature that's going to make the Finder any less bare, but it's one we didn't know about and can come in pretty handy.

  • Better Explorer Brings a Windows 8-Style Explorer to Windows 7, Ribbon and All

In Windows Downloads, Windows Explorer, Ribbon, Explorer, File Managers, File Explorers, Windows, Windows 8, Downloads, / 16 December 2011 / 0 comments

Better Explorer Brings a Windows 8-Style Explorer to Windows 7, Ribbon and AllWindows: If you like the look of Windows 8's new version of Windows Explorer, but don't want to use the developer preview, free app Better Explorer brings some of the perks to your Windows 7 desktop.

Better Explorer attempts to emulate the best features of Windows 8'd Explorer, like the collapsible ribbon UI and the quick access toolbar, while also adding tabs and a bit of extra jumplist options. It's a completely separate program, too, not an add-on for Windows Explorer, which can be kind of a scary endeavor sometimes. The tabs are definitely nice to have, and adding functions like Copy, Paste, or Refresh to the quick access toolbar is just a matter of right-clicking on them.

Better Explorer is still in the alpha stages, and while it's quite usable, it isn't exactly perfect. There doesn't seem to be an obvious keyboard shortcut for opening a new tab, nor is there anything under the File menu. I haven't noticed any big bugs, but just know that it isn't a finished product. Development doesn't seem to fast, either, but it'll certainly hold you over until Windows 8 if you don't want to completely replace your file explorer.

Better Explorer is a free download for Windows 7 and Vista only.

  • Windows Explorer Replacement Xplorer2 Half Price for the Rest of Today

In Dealhacker, File Explorer, Downloads, File Management, File Managers, Windows, Featured Windows Download, Windows 8, Downloads, / 06 January 2011 / 0 comments

Windows Explorer Replacement Xplorer2 Half Price for the Rest of TodayWhile Windows 7 has made some great additions to Windows Explorer, it still isn't nearly as powerful as it could be. We mentioned the super powerful Windows Explorer replacement Xplorer2 long ago, and it's only $15 for the rest of the day (half off its usual $30 price tag). So if you feel like Windows Explorer just isn't cutting it, and you'd like to have advanced features like dual panes, tabs, document previews, folder syncing and more, grab a copy of it now before it goes back to being full price. Thanks, Paul! [Bits Du Jour]
