In Hive Five Followup, Drawing, Art, Doodles, Creativity, Downloads, Tablets, Stylus, Touchscreen, Sketchbook, Autocad, Paper, Artrage, Infinite Design, Procreate, Hive Five, In Brief, / 29 May 2012 / 0 comments

Most Popular Tablet Drawing App: Sketchbook Express/Mobile/ProMost Popular Tablet Drawing App: Sketchbook Express/Mobile/Pro Whether you just want to doodle on your tablet, or you want to make a few quick sketches or notes, or you're a bona-fide artist and want to make beautiful digital paintings, there are drawing apps for any device that can help you express your creativity. Last week, we asked you which drawing apps you thought were the best for the job. Then we took a look at the five best tablet drawing apps, and put them to a vote. Now we're back to highlight the winner.

Autodesk's Sketchbook Express (iOS/Android), Sketchbook Mobile (Android), and Sketchbook Pro (iOS/Android) won your praise for being the most feature rich, widely available, and offering the most bang for your buck. It took home the top spot with close to 42% of the overall vote. Paper, an attractive and free(mium) drawing app for iOS, took the second spot with close to 38% of the votes cast. In third place, Procreate for iOS won your votes for being incredibly feature rich and aimed at serious artists, and brought in just over 10% of the vote. Behind it in fourth is Infinite Design for Android and its free version, both of which earned over 6% of the vote. Bringing up the rear, despite its professional tools and availability on the desktop as well as iOS devices was Artrage, earning about 4% of your votes.

As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it—it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. • Most Popular Web Hosting Company: Dreamhost

In Hive Five Followup, Web Hosts, Hosting, Hosting Companies, Web, Web Hosting, Lineode, Dreamhost, Hostgator, A Small Orange, Bluehost, Rackspace, Nearly Free Speech, Hive Five, In Brief, Hive Five, In Brief, / 22 May 2012 / 0 comments

Most Popular Web Hosting Company: Dreamhost Hosting your own blog, photo gallery, or personal website has never been easier, and there's no reason to rely on a free service that may vanish one day (taking all of your data with it!) when you can do it yourself for a few dollars a month, depending on your needs. Last week, we asked you which web hosts you thought offered the best combination of features, pricing, support, and availability. Then we distilled your 100+ nominations down to the top five web hosting companies, and put them to a vote. Now we're back to highlight the winner.

Voting was fierce all weekend, and the conversation in the comments was even fiercer, but love them or hate them, Dreamhost came out on top with just under 28% of the overall vote. Hot on its heels in second was Bluehost, with just over 25% of the vote, losing to Dreamhost by a mere 95 votes, which shows you how close the battle was. The fight for second place was even fiercer, with Hostgator sliding in only four votes under Bluehost, and taking the third place slot at 25% of the votes cast (25.02%, specifically, to Bluehost's 25.12%.) In fourth place, homegrown hosting company A Small Orange managed to bring in over 12% of the overall vote, and bringing up the rear, VPS provider Linode brought in close to 10% of the votes cast.

  • Most Popular Online Custom Clothing Store: Indochino

In Hive Five Followup, Clothes, Shopping, Tailoring, Discounts, Saving Money, Bargains, Bulk, Shirts, Skirts, Ties, Slacks, Designer, Tailored, Indochino, Eshakti, Modern Tailor, Blank Label, Black Lapel, Hive Five, In Brief, / 15 May 2012 / 0 comments

Most Popular Online Custom Clothing Store: Indochino You're a busy person, and taking time out to shop in a brick and mortar store for clothes is a hassle. Why bother when you can buy great-looking clothes online, custom tailored to your exact measurements, at prices better than you'll find off the rack? Last week we asked you which online clothing shops you trusted for quality clothing, great prices, and a perfect fit. We rounded up your nominations and then took a look at the top five online custom clothing stores and put them to a vote. Now we're back to highlight the winner—and how the contest played out.

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention the efforts that some of the contenders this week went to in order to secure victory. Many mentioned the poll in their social media channels, and encouraged their customers, friends, even their employees to vote. When it came down to the wire, the contest was between two great retailers: Black Lapel and Indochino. Indochino secured the victory, but that victory was at least in part due to their offer to give away a free custom suit to anyone who voted and then shared their post. We're not saying that should change anything, but it should be noted.

As for the standings, voting was tight between Indochino and Black Lapel all weekend. Black Lapel held an early lead, and on Monday the two were virtually tied for the top spot. Then late in the day, Indochino pulled ahead and took the prize with 59% of the votes cast, with Black Lapel taking second place with 29%. Way back in third place, Blank Label reeled in over 5% of the votes cast, and right behind it in fourth was Modern Tailor with 3.5% of the overall vote. Sliding into fifth place by only 2 votes was women's custom clothier eShakti, which reeled in 3.46% of the vote.

Most Popular Fitness Tracking Appliance: Your Smartphone Looking to get in shape, or get motivated to exercise and stay active more often? There are plenty of gadgets on the market that will give you feedback on how well you're doing, help you set certain fitness and activity goals, and connect you with friends who can motivate, inspire, or even compete against you to keep you moving. Last week we asked you which devices you thought were the best for the task, and then we took a look at the top five fitness appliances, based on your nominations. Now we're back to highlight the overall winner.

The majority of you said that you'd rather find an app for your smartphone to help keep you motivated to work out and to offer you the feedback you wanted on your exercise and activity. The "roll your own with your smartphone" contender took the top prize with 42% of the votes cast. In second place with 29% of the vote was the Nike+ Fuelband, and hot on its heels in third was the FitBit with 25% of the overall vote. In a distant fourth was the BodyMedia FIT with 2%, and bringing up the rear with little more than 1% was the Striiv Smart Pedometer.
