Building your own desk doesn't have to be difficult, especially when a place like Ikea already has the parts you need to assemble a sharp and functional workspace. This Ikea hack combines four or five different Ikea products, including plenty of storage and a lifted desk surface to offer space to spread out on top and plenty of places for filing away papers and peripherals when you're finished with them.
We've been hard pressed to see a really stellar Ikea desk since the now-discontinued Ikea Jerker, but this one is pretty good. It combines the storage of the Ikea Stolmen ($80 ea.) drawers with the space of the Vika Amon tabletop ($25-$45, prices vary with size), and finishes it off with Capita brackets ($15/pack) and legs ($14/pack).
Put the whole thing together, and you have a pretty and functional package, and the best part is that you likely won't need more than the tools that come with your Ikea parts to assemble it. It's not the cheapest desk on the market, but it's a great example of how a little creativity and some off-the-shelf products can go a long way. What do you think? Would you change the design? Use longer legs and make it a standing desk? Let us know in the comments.

DIYer Tak took a clever IKEA product and made it even more useful, by turning it into a completely hideable workspace complete with a desktop computer inside.
Cheap doesn't always have to mean ugly, and this laptop stand is proof. It's not a work of art, but it's both functional and minimal, stays out of the way tucked against a wall under your laptop, and it brings your laptop's screen up to eye-level (or mostly, at least) so you can see it comfortably. Plus, the whole setup will only set you back about $8 in parts from Ikea.
