  • What Employers Look for in Entry-Level Job Candidates

In Job Search, Infographic, Jobs, Students, Internships, Communication, Communication Skills, / 16 May 2012 / 0 comments

What Employers Look for in Entry-Level Job CandidatesMillennial Branding and Experience Inc. surveyed 225 employers to find out what's most important to them when they hire students or others for entry-level jobs. "Soft skills" like communication and teamwork were ranked even higher than education, and almost all employers said students should have at least one internship before they graduate.

An internship can be a great way to get a job, especially if you have no relevant experience. 91% of the employers surveyed said students should have between one and two internships under their belt, and those internships should be at least three months. 82% of the employers said they hire interns for full-time positions, although half of them haven't hired interns in the last six months.

However, keep in mind that relevant courses and recommendations matter more than internship experience. GPA doesn't seem to matter as much though.

If you're looking for an entry-level job, be sure to brush up on your communication skills and prepare to demonstrate your positive attitude, adaptability, and teamwork skills. Think of examples from past experience that can show off those critical skills.

  • Learn to Survive the Most Common Deadly Bites

In Survivalist, Infographic, Survival, Emergencies, Death, Deathhacker, Communication Skills, / 08 May 2012 / 0 comments

Learn to Survive the Most Common Deadly BitesHopefully you'll never find yourself in a situation where you have to combat a deadly toxin running through your bloodstream thanks to some creature that decided to be an asshole. But if you do, hopefully you'll have memorized this infographic from illustrator and blogger Yumi Sakugawa. It might save your life.

The infographic reminds us to ignore some false information that's often spread with poison-related survival Tips. For example, do not try to suck the poison out of a snake bite. Also, most scorpions in the U.S. are not lethal. In most cases, taking an antihistamine does the trick. In multiple cases you'll want to wash the bite with soap and water and pay attention to the appearance of your wild creature assailant for when you inevitably call for help. The most important thing to remember is that when you have a deadly bite, you can do things to help the situation but ultimately you will need medical attention. Make getting that attention your first priority.

Hit up Yumi's blog for the full post or check out the infographic below.

  • Not Sure If You Can Jailbreak Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Consult This Helpful Chart!

In Jailbreak, Ios, Iphone, Ipad, Ipod Touch, Ios 5, Ipad 2, Iphone 4s, Jailbreaking, Redsn0w, Infographic, / 29 December 2011 / 0 comments

Not Sure If You Can Jailbreak Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Consult This Helpful Chart!iOS 5 can be jailbroken untethered on all non-A5-based devices. iOS 4.3.3 can be jailbroken easily via a web site but iOS 4.3.4 can't. Confused yet? The state of jailbreaking is a little messy at the moment and it's hard to understand which devices and versions of iOS are eligible. This helpful chart can clear up the confusion.

    About This Chart

Not Sure If You Can Jailbreak Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Consult This Helpful Chart! The chart is pretty large and won't fit all the way up top, so you're only seeing a sample above. If you click the miniature chart-like image to your right, however, the full chart will expand and you'll be able to see it.

Green Is Good, Red Is Bad, and Yellow Is Also Kind of Bad
We decided to make this chart as simple as possible, so it only lets you know if you can or cannot jailbreak your device with a specific version of iOS installed on it. If you can't, the chart will read "No Jailbreak" and the square will be red. If only a tethered jailbreak is available the square will read "Tethered Jailbreak" with yellow coloring. Finally, if a proper untethered jailbreak is available, the square will be green and read "Untethered Jailbreak." (Hint: You want the square to be green.) If your iDevice and iOS version leads you to a green square, check out our always up-to-date guide to jailbreaking for instructions on how to actually jailbreak. The main guide will focus on the current version of iOS, but if you scroll down to the bottom you'll find archived instructions for older versions if you're not running the latest.

One More Thing...for iPad 2 Owners
If you're jailbreaking an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.3 you'll need to use the JailbreakMe method and not redsn0w. With that said, happy jailbreaking!

This chart was based on an original by BigBoss. Since that one is a little out-of-date, we decided to make a new one.

  • Use Statistics to Pick Your Best Thanksgiving Travel Options

In Air Travel, Thanksgiving, Travel, Holidays, Saving Time, Saving Money, Airports, Planning, Infographic, Redsn0w, Infographic, / 08 November 2011 / 0 comments

Use Statistics to Pick Your Best Thanksgiving Travel OptionsIt's always rough flying home for Thanksgiving, but if you pay attention to statistics you can travel smarter. That's what our friends over at Hipmunk did, and they put a handy infographic together to share the best airports, travel times, and more.

Use Statistics to Pick Your Best Thanksgiving Travel OptionsFor example, people flying out of Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Portland, San Diego, or Memphis are more likely to have an on-time departure. Oakland, Houston, Salt Lake City, Miami, and St. Louis have the airports with the fewest cancellations. You can't always control where you're flying to and from, however, but you can control when. The four busiest flight days during the Thanksgiving holiday are projected to take place between November 23rd and November 28th. Flying on Thanksgiving Day (the 24th), however, will make your trip considerably easier. When compared to the busiest flying day (the 27th), there will be about one million fewer passengers traveling around the United States. If you want to avoid the crowds, Thanksgiving Day is definitely when you want to fly plus you want to make sure your return flight is not on the following Sunday.

The infographic offers up plenty of other handy tips on lost baggage and traveling with the whole family, so click on the thumbnail to your right to check it out.
