If you're an engineer, an inventor, or just a steampunk fan you might find yourself in need of a gear for a project. Most gears are cast from steel or other metals, but you can make a simple less-durable gear using wooden rounds and an automobile timing belt.
Woodworking weblog Lumber Jocks made the gears in the above photo by gluing two layers of ¾" plywood together, cutting circles from the plywood, drilling mounting holes, and covering the edges with a strip of a used automobile timing belt.
