  • How Do You Stay Productive After Work?

In Ask The Readers, Productivity, Projects, Hobbies, Personal, Motivation, Energy, Personal Projects, Side Jobs, Passions, After Work, Work, Jobs, Free Time, / 29 May 2012 / 0 comments

How Do You Stay Productive After Work? You've worked a long hard day at the office, and you're finally free. It's tempting to go home, stuff some food in your mouth, and do nothing for the rest of the night, but after work is prime time to get started on your side project, learn a new skill or language, or do something else that you have a passion for. So how do you resist the urge to fall down on the couch after work every day? How do you find the motivation to stay productive after leaving work?

It's difficult enough to leave a long day of work and take care of your household chores and other responsibilities, but how do you stay motivated to be productive at your side projects? Sure, it helps to work on things that you're passionate about, or don't have the opportunity to work on during the day, but how do you commit and make sure you stay committed, even on those days where you feel like you really don't feel like it?

This thread at Hacker News inspired us to ask you the question, and find out what techniques you use to make sure you make headway on your pet projects once you've made the decision to get started. Do you get up early and work on your side gig in the early morning, or do you lock yourself in the basement until you've made progress? Maybe you're like our editor-in-chief, Adam Pash, who promises to give his project 10 minutes each day, no more (unless he wants to), no less. However you do it, share some of your tips for staying personally productive after the workday is over in the comments below.

  • Sidengo Offers Attractive, Easy-to-Create Personal Nameplates with Multiple Pages

In Webapps, Websites, Nameplates, Site Builder, Landing Page, Personal, Professional, WYSISYG, Personal Nameplate, Professional Nameplate, Web Services, Website Builder, Contact Page, News, / 14 March 2012 / 0 comments

Sidengo Offers Attractive, Easy-to-Create Personal Nameplates with Multiple Pages The catch to most personal and professional nameplate sites is that they offer you a single page that you can customize and tweak to describe yourself, and that's all you get. They may integrate with your social networks, but it's really for display purposes. Sidengo is a new service that's a little different. Instead of giving you one page, Sidengo allows you to create a nameplate site, complete with multiple pages for contact info, social networks, and more.

Much like some of our other favorite nameplate sites, Sidengo lets you sign up and build a landing page that visitors can visit and learn more about you. You get a number of templates to get you started, or the option to upload your own images to use with your site, and a WYSISYG editor that lets you customize and tweak the design in real time without working with the underpinnings of the site.

Where Sidengo departs from the traditional model though is in the number of modules and sub-sites that it offers. You can add a contact page with as much or as little information on it as you want, like a map, phone number, and email address, and requests for information through the page will be routed to you. You can integrate your social networks with the site, so visitors can click to see your recent tweets, Facebook posts, and if you have a Facebook page for your brand or business, you can integrate it with your landing page as well. You can even upload PDFs, custom forms for visitors to fill out, and other documents so visitors can grab a copy of your resume if you're looking for work, or your menu if you're a restaurant owner.

The service also supports Flickr galleries, YouTube video embeds, and sports mobile optimization out of the box, so as soon as you set up your page, it's ready for viewing on mobile devices. Sidengo is currently in beta, and while it's in beta the service is free. If you've tried other services and are looking for an alternative, Sidengo is worth a look.

  • Do You Pay a Flat Monthly Cellphone Bill Pay-as-You-Go?

In Ask The Readers, Saving, Money, Cellphones Bills Telephony Money, Personal, Finance, Professional, WYSISYG, Personal Nameplate, Professional Nameplate, Web Services, Website Builder, Contact Page, News, / 26 March 2009 / 0 comments

Do You Pay a Flat Monthly Cellphone Bill Pay-as-You-Go?Do You Pay a Flat Monthly Cellphone Bill Pay-as-You-Go?Everybody knows monthly cellphone bills are a disaster, and according to the New York Times, you'd probably be saving money on a pay-as-you-go plan.

A consumer group called the Utility Consumers' Action Network wants you to know exactly what you're paying per minute. Why should you care? Because where pay-as-you-go plans often cost as little as $0.05/minute, if you try to get the per-minute cost of your monthly plan, you may be paying five times as much. UCAN's survey data suggests that:

Fifty-one percent of customers in the survey paid 25 cents a minute or less, and 49 percent paid 26 cents a minute or more.

The article isn't necessarily claiming that pay-as-you-go plans are always the best route, but depending on how you use your phone, pay-as-you-go could save many people serious cash—an appealing thought these days.

So we're wondering: Are you on a monthly plan or a pay-as-you-go plan with your phone? If you do pay that monthly bill, do you have any idea what your per-minute cost is? (We can say that we have no idea, and that our bill has never done much to clarify.) Let's hear your thoughts in the comments.
