We've discussed how to speed up and refresh your Android phone before, but at the end of the day there's only so much you can do at one time to give your device a boost. Cosmos, a new app from the team at Support.com, aims to change that. Cosmos rolls privacy protection, battery management, and junk file removal all into one easy to use tool that promises to keep your phone safe, snappy, and responsive.
Cosmos doesn't do anything that other apps don't already do, but what makes it interesting is that it rolls the features of three or four other utilities into one free app that's easy to use. If your battery keeps dying before you can recharge your phone, Cosmos' battery optimizer will monitor your power consumption, show it to you as the day progresses, and offer one-touch management settings designed to help you squeeze as much life as possible out of your battery before you have to plug your phone in. The privacy scanner will look at all of your installed apps and report back to you what permissions each app requires and whether it seems out of the ordinary, and the trash cleaner automatically cleans out orphaned application files by uninstalled apps, clears your browser history, and can even wipe out your call log and application caches to free up space and keep your phone running smoothly.
The big draw of the tool is obviously the power management, which we think is already well covered (and then some) by our favorite tool for the job, JuiceDefender, but Cosmos is free and includes features you'd have to install other apps to get, so it's worth a look. What do you think? Have you tried Cosmos? Do you prefer one app that does it all, or multiple apps that do individual things better? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

We've discussed how to
Want a simple way to count characters, words, and paragraphs in any Mac program? Mac OS X Hints shares an Automator script that adds a right-click option to selected text so you can get a word count in any program you want.
Mac: It's sometimes easy to forget to remember to lock you Mac's screen when you walk away. If you're looking for a simple automatic solution, Bluetooth Screen Lock is a utility that automatically locks your screen when you walk away with a paired Bluetooth device.
Windows only: If you're a Windows tweak addict, you probably use tools like the Registry, Computer Management, Disk Management, and Power Options often—apps that are extremely useful, but don't always have obvious or quick shortcuts in the Start Menu. WinPlusX puts them one keyboard shortcut away.
